A new partnership between Grid Africa and China-based CEGN is set to deploy 50 MWh of battery energy storage in Zambia, supporting wider adoption of solar power, especially beyond daylight hours.

Combining Grid Africa’s local expertise with CEGN’s technical capabilities, the collaboration will roll out battery systems ranging from 200 kWh to 5 MWh for both public and private sector clients. These projects aim to stabilise Zambia’s grid and address energy gaps caused by declining hydroelectric output due to drought.

The initiative includes both behind-the-meter and grid-scale installations and lays the groundwork for future expansion beyond Zambia.

This development highlights growing opportunities in scalable energy storage, key for members interested in clean energy innovation across Africa.
