Driving Impact: The Growing Convergence of B Corp Certification and Impact Investing in Asia
Summary
The seminar brought together leading voices in Asia’s impact investment ecosystem to explore the growing importance of B Corp certification in shaping responsible and sustainable finance. Hosted by GAIL APAC and supported by B Market Builder Japan, the event highlighted how investors are increasingly aligning their strategies with B Corp principles to strengthen governance, accountability, and measurable impact. Participants gained a clear picture of how the integration of B Corp certification is becoming a defining feature of impact investing in the region.
The programme opened with a presentation by Takahisa Watanabe, who outlined the latest trends in B Corp certification and its use within the investment landscape. His overview traced the rapid uptake of certification, as well as the growing reliance on the B Impact Assessment by funds seeking to evaluate and track their impact performance. This set the stage for a deeper discussion on how certification frameworks are reshaping investor behaviour and expectations.
The central panel discussion, moderated by Vivien Teu, featured fund representatives from across Asia, including Malaysia’s Bintang Capital Partners, Japan’s UNERI Capital, and Korea’s Merry Year Social Company, alongside perspectives from Hong Kong’s Vivien Teu Law Practice and the UK-based Arowana. Each shared their unique approaches to embedding B Corp standards within their core philosophies, detailing both challenges and practical strategies for implementation. The dialogue underscored a strong momentum in the region, with participants also reflecting on the upcoming revisions to B Corp standards and their implications for the future of impact investing in Asia.
