Through this event, lawyers representing four European jurisdictions and the UK will address the legal basis for company directors to include sustainability in their financial statements.
This virtual roundtable will present the English law legal opinion commissioned by Social Value International, and explore how this maps across into other key European jurisdictions, based on legal analyses undertaken in partnership with GAIL in Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain.

Bas is a corporate partner and one of the founders of Rutgers & Posch. Bas is trusted legal adviser to some large international companies and he does a significant amount of work for listed companies and financial institutions.
Bas started his career at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, before heading the legal department of the Dutch rail operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen. From 1998 to 2013 he was a corporate partner at Houthoff. He has also served as a deputy judge at the District Court of Arnhem for ten years. Bas gives lectures for the Foundation for Professional Training of In-House Counsel (Stichting Beroepsopleiding voor Bedrijfsjuristen) and is a fellow of the Zuidas Institute for Financial Law and Corporate Law (ZIFO) of the VU University in Amsterdam. He regularly publishes on corporate governance and other matters of corporate law and is also a frequent speaker on these topics.

Jeremy Nicholls is an advisor to Social Value International (SVI) on the relationship between financial and sustainability reporting and also the Assurance Framework lead for the UNDP SDG Impact Standards. He is an honorary senior fellow in accounting at the University of Liverpool and a member of A4S’s expert panel and of GRI’s due process oversight committee. He originally qualified as a chartered accountant.

Sarah is the Executive Director of the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers, a community of legal leaders who are using their careers to have a positive impact on people and the planet, and to accelerate the just transition.
Sarah runs GAIL from the offices of Bates Wells, the first UK law firm to become a B Corp, where she was previously Impact Economy Manager.
Sarah is named one of the top 100 Women in Social Enterprise in the UK and a finalist for the 2023 Rising Star award.
She is a Fellow of On Purpose, the profit with purpose leadership programme. Her career has spanned impact investment at Big Society Capital, as well as improving access to justice in the UK as Head of Trusts at Support Through Court, and in Kenya and Uganda at African Prisons Project.
Sarah was called to the Bar of England and Wales and holds qualifications in Law and English.
