Counsel at Ritch Mueller
James joined Ritch Mueller in 1992 and was a partner from 1996 to 2011. James was a foreign associate at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York in 1991. From 2011 to 2015, James was a visiting scholar at Duke University School of Law and co-founded an incubator and accelerator of social enterprises in Mexico. James is counsel of Ritch Mueller since 2016.
James has extensive experience in private equity, fund formation, competition and antitrust, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and a broad range of financing and capital markets transactions, including project finance, structured finance, cross-border secured and unsecured loans and debt and equity offerings.
James is the co-founder of Desarrollante, a social enterprise and is the former chairman of the board of directors of Centro Mexicano de Derecho Ambiental, A.C., a leading Mexican environmental defense non-profit organization.

She has a specialization in Fashion Law from the Fashion Law Institute at Fordham Law University, New York. She is a graduate of the Sustainable Luxury Management Program issued by the Sustainable Luxury Management Center of Argentina in conjunction with the United Nations Pact of Colombia and Argentina and of the Diploma in Luxury Management from the European Luxury Institute and the Universidad Anahuac del Norte de Mexico. She has completed a specialization course in Blockchain, Smart Contracts, Tokenization and Cryptoassets by the Blockchain Intelligence Institute of Spain and the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, and a specialization course in private law at the University of Salamanca, Spain. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Salamanca, Spain.
She is Senior Partner of the Corporate & Digital Investments area and head of the Fashion, Luxury and Retail Law area of Muñiz, Olaya, Meléndez, Castro, Ono & Herrera Abogados. as well as professor at ESAN, Universidad de Lima and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC). She was a project evaluator for the Proinnóvate Contest of the Peruvian Ministry of Production, as well as a mentor in the start-up incubator Emprende UP of the Universidad del Pacífico.
In 2024 she was nominated as partner of the year at the Luxury Law Summit, and from 2019 to date she has been recognized as a Leader in Peru in Fashion Law by Leaders League. She is also President of the Fashion and Retail Law Commission of the Lima Bar Association, secretary of the Fashion Law Commission of ASIPI, member of the Association of Fashion Law Experts of Spain, of the Association of Fashion Law Latam of Peru, of the Fashion Law Committee of Sao Paulo of Brazil, of Ceo Women Peru as well as representing Peru on the board of the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers (GAIL Latin America).
She was also the coordinator of the first e-book of Fashion Law written in Peru in 2018 as well as of the Peru Chapter of the book Fashion Law in Iberoamerica in 2021.
She has written several articles in blogs and national and international media, as well as lectured in Peru and abroad on topics related to fashion law, techlaw and impact law.

Ivette Montero is a lawyer from La Salle University and has a master of laws from Universidad Iberoamericana. She has completed various studies abroad, including the Certification in Negotiation for Lawyers from Harvard Law School, the diploma in Democracy, Vulnerability and Access to Justice at the National University of San Luis in Argentina, as well as studies in Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin.
Ivette is recently an applicant for the private mediation certification at the Alternative Justice Center of the Superior Tribunal of Justice of Mexico City. She is founder and board member of Centro Mexicano Pro Bono, A.C., where she strategically participates in high impact social projects. She actively collaborates in the Institute for Research on Human Rights and Gender Studies. She is also a member of the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers, co-editor of the Mexico Pro Bono Standards, member of the technical committee of the Pro Bono Network for the Americas and co-founder of the Mexican Network against Women and Girls’ violence.
Before dedicating her professional life to social, gender and collaborative fields, Ivette worked as in-house lawyer. She was General Counsel of Sports World and regional legal counsel for North Latin America at Becton Dickinson. She received the Latin Lawyer pro bono award in 2018, and in 2022, thanks to her leadership and direction, the Centro Mexicano Pro Bono was recognized as a beneficiary of the Latin Lawyer Ceremony Awards in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
