This workshop was designed to share practical knowledge and case studies on how lawyers can support African mission-driven companies to meet the ESG requirements that often accompany international investments.

Companies focusing on both ESG and impact often have a core focus on improving stakeholder welfare as well as internal company operations. However, it takes time and resources to establish comprehensive ESG systems which are often a condition accompanying international investment or development finance, and many companies, especially smaller ones, don’t necessarily have this capability and knowledge within their in-house legal teams.

This practical workshop includes information from the perspective of in-house counsel supporting companies to take on international private investment; legal counsel from within development banks who will speak to the requirements that often accompany capital deployment, and private practice lawyers who have advised across a spectrum of transactions with an ESG component.

The session provides practical knowledge and tools for lawyers across Africa – both in-house and in private practice – to support their clients with ESG compliance processes and requirements accompanying development finance and/or international investments.
