Format: Online | Member-Only
Duration: 1 hour
GAIL members are warmly invited to join this Member Drop-In hosted by GAIL North America.
This session will explore two developments that are increasingly shaping the work of impact lawyers: new approaches to financing economic mobility and the growing role of artificial intelligence in legal practice.
Structuring Capital for Impact: Lessons from The Tuesday Fund
Leslie Cornell, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Social Finance US, will discuss The Tuesday Fund, a $25 million impact-first investment fund established to support economic mobility through income generation, wealth building, and enabling infrastructure.
Using The Tuesday Fund as a case study, the discussion will explore the legal and governance architecture underpinning the fund, including how lawyers approached questions of mission alignment, fiduciary duties, investment decision-making, and fund governance. Members will gain practical insight into the structuring of a donor-supported vehicle deploying both debt and equity capital, and the considerations involved in translating impact objectives into legal and financial frameworks.
The session will be particularly relevant for lawyers interested in the design of impact funds, innovative capital structures, and the legal mechanics that enable mission-driven investment strategies.
AI and the Future of Legal Practice
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday legal work. From due diligence and contract review to governance and compliance, lawyers are beginning to grapple with how these tools may change both the delivery of legal services and the economics of legal practice.
Sateesh Nori, Chief Legal Futurist at LawDroid and Senior Research Fellow at NYU School of Law, will share reflections on what these developments mean for lawyers and the organisations they serve. Drawing on themes from his recent book, The Augmented Lawyer, he will consider how technology may help expand access to legal expertise, create capacity for smaller and underserved clients, and reshape the way legal services are delivered.
The discussion will also explore where human judgment remains essential, how lawyers should approach the opportunities and risks presented by AI, and what these changes may mean for fields such as impact investing, corporate governance, and access to justice.
